In recognition of his exceptional contributions to peace and community development, a renowned security expert, educationist and serial entrepreneur, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, has been appointed as an International Peace Advocate by the Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN-POLAC).

This prestigious appointment will be officially conferred upon him during the International Day of Peace celebration on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

UN-POLAC, established in 2001 and affiliated with the United Nations and UNESCO, was founded following the General Assembly’s resolution that declared 2001-2010 as a decade of peace and non-violence. The foundation’s mandate aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and UNESCO’s culture of peace projects, emphasizing peace, security, and the restoration of human dignity.

Ogunsan’s nomination as an International Peace Advocate is a testament to his integrity and dedication to living for the sake of others. The trustees of UN-POLAC noted that they have recognised his commitment to promoting universal moral values, fostering strong family life, enhancing social harmony and encouraging inter-religious and ethnic cooperation. His exemplary efforts in these areas have made him a distinguished role model in community services and peacebuilding.

The appointment comes with several prestigious benefits, including: a UN-POLAC Certificate of Appointment/Award: an international identity card; investiture apparel; a fag of authority to be hoisted at a location of his choice; a special vehicle number plate in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

In his role as an International Peace Advocate, Ogunsan may be called upon to participate in peace-making efforts, conflict resolution, and other activities that promote peace and positive living in line with best international practices.

The annual celebration of the International Day of Peace serves as an inspiring reminder of what can be achieved collectively in the pursuit of global harmony. This year’s event, dedicated to strengthening the ideals of peace among all nations and peoples, promises to be a momentous occasion.

In a letter of nomination/appointment signed by the Director General of UN-POLAC, Prof. Halo B. Eton, the organisation conveyed its deepest congratulatory regards to Ogunsan, describing it as a well-deserved honour due to his indelible impact in the field of peace and security.

“The annual celebration of International Day of Peace is an inspiring reminder of what we can create together as a people and as a nation. As part of the event for the celebration, there will be appointment of International Peace Advocates and presentation of Awards to individuals of proven integrity who exhibit the ideals of living for the sake of others and commit themselves to promoting universal moral values, strong family life, social harmony. inter-religious and ethnic co-operation and the culture of peace.

“In addition to acknowledging these special qualities, the appointment and award encourages these individuals to be role models in community services and peace making.
In view of the foregoing, the trustees of POLAC recognise that you exemplify these qualities and wish to convey you their decision to appoint you an International Peace Advocate,” the statement read.
