In a moment of historic significance, Mojisola Meranda, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has announced her resignation from the position of Speaker of the 10th Assembly, effective March 3, 2025. This moment marks the end of a remarkable tenure that saw Meranda make history as the first female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

In her resignation statement, Meranda expressed her deep gratitude to her colleagues and the people of Lagos State for the trust they placed in her leadership. She acknowledged the unwavering support from her fellow lawmakers, which she credited as pivotal to her successes during her term. She also paid tribute to the legacy of integrity and honor that she inherited from her father, vowing to continue upholding these values in all aspects of her life and future endeavors.

“It is with every sense of duty and conviction that I tender my resignation today. The decision to step down has been carefully considered. We, as representatives of the people of Lagos, stand for good governance and progress, and my commitment to these ideals remains steadfast,” Meranda said.

Reflecting on her historic achievement, Meranda emphasized the profound responsibility that comes with being the first female Speaker of the Assembly, a position she held with pride and dedication. “I made history, and together with my colleagues, we have made great strides in the advancement of governance in Lagos State. It has been an honor to serve as the Speaker, and I will never depart from the path of integrity and service to the people.”

Meranda’s resignation marks a significant chapter in Lagos’ political history, and her contributions to the state’s legislative journey are expected to inspire generations to come. The Lagos State House of Assembly will now look ahead to the next phase of leadership as the 10th Assembly moves forward.

The Speaker concluded by thanking her colleagues and the people of Lagos for their support, stating, “I remain committed to the values of transparency, accountability, and good governance. It has been a privilege to serve.”
