Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has received praise for his commitment to completing and funding road projects initiated by the previous administration.

Recent findings by Info Daily reveal that Okpebholo has not only continued these projects but has also launched several significant initiatives currently underway in Benin metropolis.

During a visit to the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium area in Ogbe community, it was noted that multiple Ogbewaise link roads, which were started by the former administration, have been successfully completed. The newly laid asphalt on these roads has significantly improved mobility in the area.

The Okpebholo-led government has also resumed work on the dualization and construction of the Ekewan Road, which had been stalled near the Army Barracks during the previous administration. Contractors have been re-engaged to expand the road up to the Ekewan Army Barracks, where asphalt is being laid, and a retentive pond is being constructed to manage erosion in the vicinity.

In a brief visit to Charismatic Renewal Road, off Ekewan Road, it was observed that a previously unmotorable 1.4 km road is now under construction. Governor Okpebholo was said to have promised residents during his campaign that he would make the road accessible, and the ongoing project includes the installation of two side drainages and a retentive pond, fulfilling his commitment to the community.

Additionally, at Uteh, off Palace Road in Upper Mission, Benin, a 4.7 km road project is currently in progress. Awarded in February 2025, contractors have already mobilized to the site.

Site Engineer Tomiwa Atoyebi while speaking, said significant advancements have been made in drainage construction, with 1.6 km of drainage work completed. He expressed confidence that the project would be finished within the 12-month timeline, aiming for completion by February 2026.

He stressed: ‘“The drainage works and earthworks are our main focus at this stage. We have completed 1.6 km of drainage on both sides of the road, and we’re moving forward with the formwork for base construction. We are committed to meeting the project deadline by February 2026.”

Furthermore, in Teboga, Upper Mission, Benin, extensive road construction is underway. The area, previously plagued by erosion, is undergoing transformation as the terrain is being leveled and a wide drainage system is being built to direct water to the nearby Ikpoba River.

Overall, Governor Okpebholo’s administration is making substantial strides in enhancing road infrastructure in Edo State, demonstrating a commitment to improving the quality of life for residents through better mobility and infrastructure development.
