The Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA, District 9110, has once again demonstrated its commitment to community service and healthcare improvement with the commissioning of the newly constructed Caregivers’ Quarters at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), on Friday, 28th of June, 2024. The initiative aimed at providing accommodation and support for caregivers attending to patients at the hospital.

During the handover ceremony held within the hospital premises, the Hope President, Rtn. (Engr) Adeyemi Adesina (MD), expressed his profound gratitude to the leadership of LASUTH for supporting the Club in executing the project from inception till the final stage and for their pledged commitment to maintaining the new facility.

Rtn Adesina stated that, Rotary Club is all about humanity and society, which is the driving force behind the project. “The 36-bed Caregiver Quarters is built to ensure relatives of admitted patients have a good, hygienic and conducive place to stay while they await their loved ones accessing care in the hospital. This initiative will help in the management of disease control among patients’ relatives”, he said.

In his welcome address, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, the Chief Medical Director, noted that LASUTH is now the only public hospital in Lagos State with a structure where patients’ relatives can rest comfortably while caring for their loved ones, instead of sleeping on mats in mosquito-infested areas around the hospital premises or in their cars. He said that the Quarters will provide succour for patients’ relatives who are on admission.

The CMD heartily appreciated the Rotary Club for the donation and said the initiative complements the relation dependent healthcare system in Nigeria, and he expressed excitement and delight with the Rotary Club of Ikeja, GRA, for fulfilling their promise of finishing the construction of the Caregivers’ Quarters in the four months the club exco had. He assured the audience that the cost of accommodation at the Caregivers’ Quarters would be affordable.

The District Governor, Rotarian Ifeyinwa Rita Ejezie commended members of the Rotary Club of Ikeja, GRA, for their swift action in executing an impactful project. She highlighted the importance of collaboration between organizations like Rotary and healthcare institutions like LASUTH. She explained that the commissioning event showcases the strong partnership between the two entities and their shared dedication to improving the well-being of patients and their families.

In attendance at the event were some members of the top management committee of LASUTH, Director of Clinical Services and Training, Prof. Adebowale O. Adekoya; Director of Hospital Administration and Human Resource, Mr. Jelili Babatunde Oyekan; Director of Finance, Mrs. Titilope Alaka; Director of Nursing Services; Mrs. Adebola Aina; Deputy Director and Head of Nursing Clinical Services Mrs Temitope Sikaye; Deputy Chairman Medical Advisory Committee for Clinical Services, Dr. Ayodele Bamidele and Dr. Olayinka Sunday Olawoye; Deputy Chairman Medical Advisory Committee, Research and Training, Dr. Omolola Lamina; Director and Head of ICT Unit, Mr. Jide Adenuga; Head of Quality Assurance Unit, Dr. Femi Ogunmokun, amongst others.
