Mandate Movement Celebrates Milestones On June 12: Reflecting On Democracy And Leadership

In a significant event held at the Police Ground in Ikeja, Lagos, Hon. Abdullahi Ayinde Enilolobo, the Lagos State Chairman of The Mandate Movement, delivered a speech marking the 25th Anniversary of The Mandate Movement, the 31st Anniversary of the June 12 election annulment, and the one-year anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking to an audience comprising members of the press, dignitaries, and supporters, Enilolobo highlighted the historical and ongoing efforts to fortify democracy in Nigeria. He underscored the importance of June 12, commemorating it as a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey, despite the setbacks and challenges faced.

“June 12th should remind us of the beauty of democracy. While we may not have achieved all our goals, we are not regressing. Democracy is a continuous process, and the 2023 election marked an improvement over previous ones. Anti-democracy forces must allow this system to flourish,” Enilolobo stated.

Reflecting on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s legacy, Enilolobo praised his significant contributions to Nigeria’s democratic struggle. “President Tinubu stood out as a colossus during the fight for the June 12 election. He risked his life and property, facing severe persecution to ensure the triumph of democracy,” he noted.

The speech also celebrated Tinubu’s unique position as the first pro-democracy activist to emerge as Nigeria’s President, breaking a long-standing military dominance. Enilolobo emphasized the paradigm shift in governance since Tinubu assumed office, lauding his achievements in various sectors within a year.

Key achievements highlighted included:

Student Loans: Over 60,000 applications from poor and indigent students have been processed, marking a significant milestone in educational support.

Lagos-Calabar Highway Construction: This project is expected to benefit over 50,000 Nigerians directly and indirectly, opening up vast business opportunities.
Central Bank Reforms: Establishing accountability and probity, moving away from the politicization of monetary policies.

Oil Sector Stability: Increased investment to combat oil theft and vandalism, leading to significant recoveries of stolen crude and operational refineries in Port Harcourt and Warri.

In celebrating The Mandate Movement’s 25th Anniversary, Enilolobo reaffirmed the group’s commitment to expanding its influence nationwide, mobilizing various sectors of society to support and defend Nigeria’s democracy.

“The Mandate Group has put in place structures to establish itself across all 36 states. Our mission is to defend the mandate of President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima and to promote unity, justice, and liberty in Nigeria,” he proclaimed.

The event concluded with congratulations extended to President Tinubu, The Mandate Movement, and Nigerians for their collective efforts towards national progress and democratic governance.
