The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has blamed the rising wave of insecurity in Nigeria on the breakdown of family values.
Musa, who spoke on Thursday at the closing ceremony of the 2025 edition of Exercise Haske Biyu at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, Kaduna, stressed that rebuilding family structures is central to curbing insecurity.
“The family is the bedrock of every community. Without the family, there can’t be a good community,” he said.
According to him, the weakening of the family system has worsened Nigeria’s security challenges. “What we have realised is that because the family system is failing, insecurity is growing, which means if we address the family issues, insecurity will go down,” he added.
The exercise, which focused on family values, civic duties, and moral resilience, examined their roles in addressing security threats in Nigeria and other participating nations.
Musa further urged parents and guardians to instill discipline, respect, and love in their children, noting that these virtues are critical in raising responsible citizens.
