President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated his administration’s commitment to reform the Nigeria Police for better performance and service delivery that will make every Nigeiran proud.

The Chief of staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, made this known when he led a delegation of federal government representative to meet with south east leaders on Saturday.

President Buhari called on the Nigerian youths to embrace peace, saying that they should not fall victim to messages of hate, divisiveness and vitriol, that only inspires violence.

Other federal government delegation at the meeting were, Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, Inspector General of Police, and the DG State Security Services

President Buhari who spoke through his chief of staff, warned further that “government will not be a bystander and observe anyone trying to dismantle our unity”.

He therefore restated his commitment to engage the youths for sustainable peace in the south East, adding that, there can be no development without peace and security, more so, no development can be sustained without socio-economic development.

Buhari noted that the strength of the nation is rooted in its diversity, and that the nation cannot move forward if any part of it was ignored.

Addressing newsmen at the meeting, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and culture, Lai Mohammed, said no single Nigerian was killed at the Lekki Toll Gate during the #EndSARS protest.

Mohammed, said the so called massacre was mere fake news only propagated on social media meant to discredit the government.

Mohammed said that investigations has revealed that no protester was killed at the Toll Gate.

“There was no massacre at the Lekki Toll Gate. The only massacre that took place during the EndSARS protest was the social media massacre.

“Fake news was used; they used social media to spread what did not happen, which led to reprisals.”

Mohammed restated the FG’s stand that social media must be regulated, stressing “the Federal Government had warned about fake news as far back as 2017; we launched a national campaign against fake news because we foresaw this. Fake news kills more than any pandemic.

“There must be social media regulation. But social media regulation does not mean stifling the media, it does not mean shutting down the social media, it means responsive use of the social media. Fake news can shake the cause of the world.” Mohammed noted.
